This project highlighted the effects of Hip Hop on the built environment. Centered on the inhabitants of Brooklyn, New York this project was designed to be built underneath the Brooklyn bridge. Using a variety of techniques, we created a new shape, which we used as a reference to design the museum. The museum features a theatre, performance spaces, archives, a library, two large galleries, classrooms, staff offices, and more elements.
Professor Cornelius had us listen throughout the semester to the evolution of hip hop through music at different time periods beginning at the start until modern times. We also watched a few documentaries featuring graffiti, break dancing, and hip hop artists. We created drawing machines using old parts from various sources and amplifiers. We also used songs from various Hip Hop artists to create sound patterns and used them to create unique shapes.
Semester | Fall '25 |
Tools used | Rhino3D, Adobe Illustrator |
I was able to learn a variety of new techniques that I'd never heard of before. When I was overlaying the SNAFU drawing onto the museum, I was astonished that it took some shifting around before I was satisfied with the final product. The techniques I was instructed in by Professor Cornelius were definitely interesting to learn and understand. I was very happy to grow in my knowledge and grow my technical skills.
